Grants to Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana nonprofit organizations for programs benefiting children in the Greater Cincinnati area. A Letter of Inquiry must be submitted prior to submitting a full proposal. Funding is intended to support programming in the areas of education, social welfare, health, and cultural experiences of children. The Greater Cincinnati area includes Hamilton, Butler, Clermont, and Warren Counties in Ohio; Boone, Campbell, and Kenton Counties in Kentucky; and Dearborn County in Indiana.

Over the past several years, the Foundation has had a primary interest in children ages 0-6 years, though applications are still accepted for ages through high school.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must have an IRS determination as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.

Organizations must be located in the Greater Cincinnati area (Hamilton, Butler, Clermont and Warren counties in Ohio; Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties in Kentucky; and Dearborn County in Indiana.)

The Foundation will not provide continuing operational support for any grantee.

The Foundation does not normally assume a major portion of any amount being solicited.

Emergency requests are not favored unless they involve disaster and human suffering.

As a community foundation, GCF is legally restricted from funding:

- Individuals, including scholarships
- Nonprofits (501(c)-) other than charities (501(c)3) unless it can be clearly demonstrated that funds will be used towards public good
- Political campaigns for individual candidates

GCF does not typically provide funding for the following purposes, entities or activities:

- Nonprofits based in the Foundation's eight counties, but efforts taking place outside of the service area
- Event or conference sponsorship or underwriting
- Production of books, films or videos
- Programs with the sole purpose of re-granting the funds
- Units of government or government agencies
- Lobbying efforts
- Religious organizations that require religious activity for participation
- Playgrounds, sports teams or sports activities
- Regular operating or capital projects for: Individual public, private or parochial schools or universities (including student clubs, school bands, booster clubs, PTAs, etc.) outside of our small grants programs; Hospitals; Nursing or retirement homes
- Routine computer software/hardware updates
- Vehicles
- Endowment, capital or annual campaigns
- Leasehold improvements
- Debt retirement or funding of an activity after completion
- Loans
- Travel or fees for staff development
- “Emergencies” that don’t affect vulnerable people’s basic human needs

Pre-Application Information:

If you believe that your organization meets the qualifications, complete and submit a Letter of Inquiry (LOI) through the online system, Foundant.

There are three application cycles:

-LOI Deadline: November 15

-Notice of Decision: March/April

-Notice of Decision: October/November

If the deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, the deadline will be the next business day.

In most cases, an organization must wait 24 months after final payment of a grant or decline of a request before it is eligible to reapply.
