Grants to Rhode Island nonprofit organizations for human services, education, and faith-based activities. Preference will be given to organizations serving Aquidneck Island and the East Bay area. Please note that capital requests will only be considered from organizations in Aquidneck Island.
Fund Background: In his will, written on the date of his death, John Clarke established a perpetual charitable trust. He directed that the income from the trust be used "for the relief of the poor or bringing up of children unto learning from time to time forever." He further instructed the trustees "to have a special regard and care to provide for those that fear the Lord."

The majority of grants are 1 year in duration.
The trustees of the John Clarke Trust have established a policy of giving preference to organizations located on Aquidneck Island, Rhode Island and within the East Bay area. However, applications from any Rhode Island 501(c)(3) are acceptable.
The foundations do not consider grant requests from individuals and do not support organizations attempting to influence policy through direct lobbying or any political campaigns.
The application deadlines for The John Clarke Trust are April 1 and November 1, with decision dates of June 30 and January 30, respectively. If the deadline falls on a weekend or a federally recognized holiday, applications are due on the next business day by 11:59 p.m. In 2018, April 1 falls on a Sunday; the deadline is extended until Monday, April 2.
Applicants will be notified of grant decisions by letter within 2 to 3 months after the proposal deadline.
