Grants starting at $5,000 to Wisconsin nonprofits for programs that will benefit residents within the greater La Crosse area. Programs should strengthen the overall welfare of residents within the local community. The Foundation will encourage programs or projects that are outcome-based, that work on a community need or priority, or that make the community a better place.

The Foundation gives priority to projects that:

- Seek to meet a new or growing need felt by a broad segment of the community.
- Encourage additional funding or matching gifts from other donors.
- Provide realistic plans for follow-on funds from other sources.
- Promote cooperation among agencies, without duplicating services.
- Encourage self-help activities on the part of the population served by the program.
- Enhance or improve agency self-sufficiency or efficiency.
- Yield substantial benefits to the community for the resources invested.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Foundation welcomes grant requests from nonprofit organizations serving La Crosse area residents. Grant recipient organizations are tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Grants are not paid to individuals other than scholarships.

Please know that an organization can only apply for a General Fund grant one time in any rolling 12 month period.

Except in the case of donor advised or designated funds, the Foundation does not award grants to:

- Support ongoing operating expenses of well-established organizations; or support deficit funding;
- Fund needs that should more properly be funded in an operating budget of an organization;
- Fund indirect, administrative, or overhead costs;
- Establish an endowment or build existing endowment funds;
- Sectarian or religious purposes;
- Travel for individuals or groups.

The La Crosse Community Foundation only supports organizations that do not discriminate in their employment practices, volunteer opportunities, or delivery of programs and services on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, national origin, ancestry, age, medical condition, disability, veteran status, marital status, sexual orientation or any other characteristic protected by law. This policy may not apply to donor advised, designated funds, field of interest, or supporting organization funds.

Pre-Application Information:

Grant applications are reviewed on a quarterly basis.
Application deadlines remain the same year to year: January 15, April 15, July 15, and October 15.

Applicants are notified of funding decisions typically five weeks after submitting a request.
