Grants ranging from $500 to $10,000 to Salt Lake City, Utah nonprofit arts organizations to support general operating costs. Funding is intended to help arts organizations expand and sustain programming that benefits the citizens of the city. Priority is given to high-quality arts programming that demonstrate a positive impact on the community. Only projects that take place within Salt Lake City limits are supported.

The Committee prioritizes the Arts Learning and Artist-in-the-Classroom grant categories and applications that demonstrate need. Also of high importance is the presentation of a balanced and detailed budget, description of the impact to the community, and strategy for broadening audience reach.

Supported arts disciplines include dance, theater, music, opera, media arts, design/architecture, literary arts, visual arts, folk arts/folklore, and multidisciplinary.

Estimated Size of Grant:

General Support grants range from $500 to $10,000.

Term of Contract:

Organizations must perform services within a twelve-month period beginning no earlier than September 1, 2019 and ending no later than August 31, 2020.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

City Arts Grants can support only those programs and projects which serve the residents of Salt Lake City and which take place within Salt Lake City limits.

In order to be eligible for a General Support grant, the applicant must:
- Be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts organization for at least three years, whose primary purpose is arts programming, support, or services;
- Have a permanent office located in Salt Lake City;
- Have paid administrative staff;
- Request support for arts projects and programs occurring in Salt Lake City.

City Arts Grants cannot be awarded to:
- Programs or travel outside of Salt Lake City;
- For-profit business, such as a corporation or LLC;
- Deficit reduction.

Pre-Application Information:

Deadline to submit an application is Tuesday, May 28, 2019, 5:00 PM.

- Committee review meeting: Summer 2019
- Board review and approval: August 2019
- Funding notification: August/September 2019
- First payment disbursed: Fall 2019
- Final payment: Upon completion and review of final report

Applicants may only submit one application per grant year. The exception is applicants who wish to submit an Arts Learning application for an arts education project in addition to a General Support or Project Support application.

Applicants must have matching funds for the requested amount of at least 1:1. This match can be through cash, earned income, private or public support, or through a combination of these resources.

Because City Arts Grants funds are limited, applicants are expected to seek additional sources of support including public and private contributions and earned income. A balance of revenue sources demonstrates good fiscal planning as well as broad community support.
