Grants of up to $15,000 to Texas organizations, businesses, and agencies for events, initiatives, and promotional activities that develop business opportunities, attract visitors to the community, and enhance the quality of life for residents of the City of McKinney. Potential applicants must contact program staff to discuss their project before applying. Funding is available for municipal departments, tourist, community and convention facilities, and community service organizations to support their efforts to increase the city's attraction to visitors and improving the quality of life for residents.

Funding Source's Goals:
- Meet citizen needs for quality of life improvements, business development and sustainable economic growth for residents in the City of McKinney
- Support cultural, sports, fitness, entertainment, community projects and events that attract resident and visitor participation and contribute to quality of life, business development and growth of McKinney sales tax revenue
- Highlight and promote McKinney as a unique destination for residents and visitors alike
- Demonstrate informed financial planning – addressing long-term costs, budget consequences, and sustainability of projects for which funding is requested
- Educate the community about the impact local dining and shopping has on investment in quality of life improvements in McKinney.

Preference may be given to applicants who develop and demonstrate multiple revenue streams to financially support Project / Retail Development Infrastructure / Promotional / Community Event requests, and are not applying to other City of McKinney entities (e.g. Arts Commission, City of McKinney Community Support Grants, McKinney Convention and Visitors Bureau).

Estimated Size of Grant:

Promotional and Community Event Grants provide financial support not to exceed $15,000 per grant.

Term of Contract:

Approved project, promotion, or community event must be completed within one year, or consistent with performance agreement.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Preference may be given to applicants who have not received funding from MCDC within the previous 12-month period.

- Applicant must have been in business (preferably within the City of McKinney) for a minimum of two years. Economic development projects may be excluded from this requirement.
- Project, Promotion, or Community Event must demonstrate how it will advance the mission and support the goals of MCDC as outlined above.
- Projects must be for public use or otherwise meet the definition of project as that term is defined in state law.
- Promotions and Community Events must be open to the public.
- Promotional / Community Event grant applications must demonstrate how the event will promote and showcase the City of McKinney for the purpose of business development and/or tourism.
- Promotional / Community Events must be open to the public. If a registration fee is charged it must be $35 or less; if the event benefits a nonprofit organization, specific detail must be provided regarding the benefit (e.g. X$ per entry; X% of overall revenue; X% of net revenue).
- If a grant is awarded for Promotional / Community events, funds may only be used for marketing, outreach, advertising and promotion of the event.

Application Process:
1. Before applying, potential applicants must first contact Cindy Schneible by email to discuss their project.
2. Applicants have the option of submitting an LOI and requesting a preliminary review of their proposal.
3. Completed application and all supporting documents are required to be submitted electronically or by mail for consideration by the MCDC board.
4. Application Review: Applications will be reviewed and considered by the MCDC Board of Directors according to the schedule above.
5. Funds for approved grants will be expended on a reimbursement basis.
