Fellowships to USA and Puerto Rico veterans to volunteer part time at local nonprofit organizations providing a broad range of services. Fellows are encouraged to choose a nonprofit they are passionate about. Fellowships involve 20 hours of service per week for 26 weeks at an eligible host nonprofit organization.

Host organizations include Habitat for Humanity, American Red Cross, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and many more. To date, more than 600 unique nonprofit and community organizations have hosted a Mission Continues Fellow.

Before beginning the fellowship, Fellows attend a three-day Fellowship Orientation, joining other post-9/11 veterans from their Fellowship Class for a weekend of training, service and camaraderie. Upon returning home from orientation, Fellows officially begin their fellowships at their host organizations.

Every Mission Continues Fellow applies to the program for unique reasons. Additional benefits include:

-Connection with other veterans in your community and across the nation by: Attending the Fellowship Orientation at the beginning of your six months of service; planning and attending service projects, bringing veterans and civilians together to benefit your community; and speaking on behalf of your host organization and The Mission Continues at career fairs, on veterans panels, or through specific media opportunities.

-Development of professional skills and network

-Translation of military-based skills to civilian workforce

-A cost-of-living stipend provided by The Mission Continues

The fellowship starts October 16, 2017 and ends April 14, 2018.

Honorably discharged veterans having served a minimum of 24 months (total) after September 11, 2001, are eligible to apply.

Applications with less than 24 months of service will be considered if serious injury and or extenuating circumstances prevented further service. Various characters of discharge will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Veterans applying for fellowship must have completed all military obligation and no longer serving with the National Guard or Reserve.

Veterans on terminal leave or part of the IRR/ING may apply.

All applicants will be subject to a background check as part of the application process. Individual circumstances will be discussed on a case-by-case basis. Host organizations may also require their own background screening as a condition of service.
