Grants to Iowa nonprofit organizations and government agencies for capital projects that will positively impact eligible communities. Grant funding priorities include outdoor experiences and recreation, arts and culture, lake quality and environment, and economic development. Eligible projects are those that benefit the Great Lakes region.

The Okoboji Foundation funds Vital Capital Projects such as buildings, equipment or physical property that will be available for many years of use in the Lakes Community.

Projects should be visible, available to a large portion of the public and have a lasting positive impact in the Iowa Great Lakes region.

Estimated Size of Grant:

- Community Needs Grants: $500 - $24,999
- Leadership Grants: $25,000 or more

Term of Contract:

- Community Needs Grant recipients should complete projects and request reimbursements with receipts totaling amount of Grant award within one year of their award notification.
- Leadership Grant recipients should complete projects and request reimbursement with receipts within three years of their award notification.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Funding is available to nonprofit, IRS 501(c)(3) tax exempt organizations, 170(b) units of government organizations or charitable organizations without the above designations through a qualified fiscal sponsor.

Not Funded: One-time activities or operating expenses such as salaries, stipends, fees for participation, travel, room and board, other forms of compensation or recurring operational expenses. The Foundation does not fund advertising, programs, special events or projects that have already been completed. The Foundation does not fund anything that is for short-term use. Nonprofits must own the property they wish to improve.

Application Deadline: March 1st, 2021

The Grants Committee may request a short presentation by nonprofits requesting larger Leadership Grants.
