Grants of up to $10,000 to New Hampshire nonprofit organizations to enhance the quality of life in eligible communities. First-time applicants are advised to confirm eligibility prior to applying. Funding may be awarded to programs in the areas of health, social well-being, enrichment, and/or educational programs, hunger programs, cultural art programs, and academic achievement programs.

Projects must be located within NHEC service area or significantly benefit NHEC members and support the Foundation’s charitable priorities.

Estimated Size of Grant:

The maximum grant award is $10,000 and grant awards typically range between $500 and $7,500.
Exceptions may be made as deemed appropriate by the Board of Trustees.

Term of Contract:

Funds must be completely and appropriately expended within one year.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Requests must come from New Hampshire based nonprofit organizations that are recognized as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Projects must be located within NHEC service area or significantly benefit NHEC members and support the Foundation’s charitable priorities.

The Board of Trustees of the NHEC Foundation will not consider grants for the following purposes:

- Sporting events and individual teams or leagues;
- Religious or political purposes;
- Computer equipment and software;
- Deficit reduction or expenses that have already been incurred;
- Programs that are typically the responsibility of federal, state, or municipal funding;
- Support of ongoing operating expenses; or
- Standalone electric service, electric service improvements, or other energy-related projects that may benefit from program incentives offered by NH Electric Cooperative, Inc.

Pre-Application Information:

The NHEC Foundation Board of Trustees meets and reviews proposals quarterly in the months of March, June, September and December. Applications and supplemental information are due no later than 4:30 PM on the 1st day of the month in which the Board meets.

For organizations that are applying for funding for the first time, please use the Eligibility Inquiry Sheet before submitting further supporting documents. Upon notification that the grant is eligible, you will be asked to submit additional documents.

If the deadline falls on a weekend, the deadline will be extended to the first business day following the first of the month. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Programs and projects that demonstrate the ability to raise additional/matching funds from other sources are preferred but this is not a requirement of any request. These can include resources from various community organizations, businesses, individuals or other grant award organizations.
