Grants to Pennsylvania nonprofit organizations to promote opportunities for children and youth in Philadelphia and Montgomery Counties. Applications are invited from grassroots movements and organizations for program support or general operating support.

The Foundation focuses its grantmaking on:
-Organizations that provide or promote educational opportunities, particularly for youth;
-Organizations that demonstrate roots in the community;
-Organizations that are willing to take risks in terms of program delivery or the development of solutions to community needs or problems;
-New ideas

Within these areas, the Douty Foundation seeks to support organizations that foster equitable opportunities for children and youth, that demonstrate a commitment to community engagement, education and grassroots leadership. Please be sure to clearly demonstrate in your application how your work connects to Douty’s mission.

Estimated Size of Grant:

First Time Applicants: First-time applicants are encouraged to apply for one-year program support or general operating support with a maximum request of $5,000.

Previously Funded Applicants: Organizations that have received Douty funding previously can request up to $7,500 in funding for one year.

Multi-year grants range from $4,000 to $7,500 per year for up to 3 years.

Term of Contract:

First-time applicants are encouraged to supply for one-year support.

Multi-year grants may be made for up to 3 years.

The Douty Foundation Board of Directors determine which organizations will receive multi-year funding. Factors involved with their decision making include: 1) the organization has been funded by The Douty Foundation for at least 3 years; 2) the organization is in good standing with the foundation.

Organizations may receive a maximum of six consecutive years of grants after which organizations must take off two years before re-applying.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Douty Foundation funds:
-501(c)3 organizations and organizations with a 501(c)3 fiscal sponsor
-Organizations that demonstrate the ability to advance the Douty Foundation’s mission
-Organizations that provide or promote educational opportunities for children & youth
-Organizations with budgets of $1 million or less
-Organizations serving Montgomery and/or Philadelphia counties in Pennsylvania
-Organizations that demonstrate roots in the community

Ideal applicant organizations will demonstrate these qualities:
-Demonstrated inclusion of underserved, unheard or unempowered communities
-Demonstrated commitment to community engagement, education and grassroots leadership
-Demonstrated concern for and responsiveness to diversity and social justice at the program and leadership levels
-Qualified and well-trained volunteers or staff
-Clear vision for the organization and its programs
-Inclusion of constituents in organizational planning
-Good reputation in the community

The Douty Foundation does not fund:
-Organizations that are not tax-exempt under the IRS Code or those without a fiscal sponsor that is tax-exempt
-Programs with religious or political purposes
-Schools
-Individuals
-Sponsorship or special events

Pre-Application Information:

Online applications are accepted from February 1st through March 15th, and, August 1st through September 17th.

The Douty Foundation prefers online application submissions but will accept postal mailed applications postmarked by the deadline date.
