Grants to Idaho nonprofit organizations, local government agencies, and school districts in eligible counties to benefit communities in the greater Eastern Idaho region. Funding is intended for the purchase of material assets. Eligible projects may align with one of the following areas of interest: education, the arts, social services, science, environmental, cultural and community interests. The Foundation’s service area includes Bonneville, Northern Bingham, Butte, Clark, Eastern Custer, Fremont, Jefferson, Madison, Lemhi, and Teton Counties.
CHC Foundation makes grants for fixed material assets such as real estate, equipment, and machinery, not for operating expenses or consumable items.
Priority will be given to enriching and innovative projects serving the public interest. The Foundation seeks to promote wellbeing and significantly enhance the quality of life for people throughout the region.
CHC Foundation grants funds toward the initiation, support, and furtherance of activities that enhance the social, cultural, and community service needs in its service area. CHC Foundation looks for grant opportunities where its funds will make a critical difference.
CHC Foundation considers the following factors when reviewing grant applications:
- Eligibility — 501(c)(3) letter of verification
- Need addressed in the proposal
- Potential benefits of the project
- Capability of the proposing organization to achieve the desired results
- Adequacy of the total project budget and timetable to achieve the desired results
- Evidence of appropriate cooperation with other organizations in the same field or organizations assisting and/or materially supporting the project
- Extent and sources of other matching funds being raised for the proposed project
- Likelihood and extent of ongoing support from the requesting organizations and other sources
- Assurance of the continued, long-term operational viability of the requesting organization

CHC Foundation prefers to support one-time projects. It may consider longer term projects that demonstrate a potential for ongoing matching funds or operational funding independent of CHC Foundation funds.
CHC Foundation serves the following ten counties in Idaho: Bonneville, Northern Bingham, Butte, Clark, Eastern Custer, Fremont, Jefferson, Madison, Lemhi, and Teton.
This is a general service area and is not meant to be all-inclusive. Please call to determine if your organization is located within the service area.
Under the rules of the Internal Revenue Service, CHC Foundation makes grants only to publicly supported, tax-exempt, nonprofit organizations and institutions and public agencies. Cities, counties, and school districts are eligible if within the service area.
To be eligible for support, applicants must have written confirmation from the Internal Revenue Service of tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3).
CHC Foundation does not make grants directly to individuals.
CHC Foundation does not make grants:
-To religious groups or churches
-To political or legislative action groups
-To national or interstate regional organizations. Exceptions may be made for a specific project or activity within the CHC Foundation service area
-To other charitable foundations
-To projects that are already completed
-For individual participation in trips, tours, workshops, contests, or competitions
-For specialized training
-For operating expenses of organizations (for example, salaries, fees, rents, and honorariums)
-For consumable items
-For annual fund drives
-For advertising charitable benefits
-For general activities not clearly linked to specific charitable objectives
-For projects that deliver basic educational services
Grant applications will be accepted beginning January 1, 2019.
Deadline for submission will be February 27, 2019.
The next Granting Session will be in Spring, 2019.

- In person to the CHC Foundation office. Please call for an appointment.
Grant requests should be consistent with the “Grant Writing” section of the guidelines.
CHC Foundation reviews and makes grant selections semi-annually, in the spring and fall.
Grant applications must be received in the office by the deadline date, in order to be considered.
All grant applications will generally receive written notification of the grant request's disposition by June 1 for the spring session and November 1 for the fall session.
