Grants of up to $25,000 to New Hampshire and Massachusetts nonprofit organizations in eligible regions for activities that benefit local communities. Funding is intended to support organizations that offer programming in the areas of health, education, the arts and social services to communities in Southeastern New Hampshire and Merrimack Valley, North Shore Massachusetts (with the exception of Lynn). Preference is given to program support. The Foundation intends to de-emphasize its past support of capital campaigns.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Grants vary in size, but average from $10,000 to $25,000. Applicants should justify the amount requested.

Term of Contract:

Typically, grants are for one year although the trustees have considered a very limited number of multiyear grants.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must be tax exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and classified as "not a private foundation" under Section 509(a) of the Code.

Organizations may submit only one application per year, and those who are declined must wait a year before reapplying.

From time to time grants of special interest to the trustees may be made outside of normal geographic guidelines.

Pre-Application Information:

The next application deadline is March 1, 2020.

Trustees meet twice a year in May and November. Deadlines for receipt of complete online proposals are March 1 for consideration at the May meeting and September 1 for consideration at the November meeting. When a deadline falls on the weekend, or a holiday, applications will be due the following business day. All applicants will be notified of the trustees' decisions shortly after the meetings.
