Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $1,000 to Seattle, Washington schools, community groups, and PTAs to encourage students to walk or bicycle to school. This program supports activities that provide both encouragement and safety education. Funding may be used for a broad range of programs, including, but not limited to:

-Student safety patrol
-Pedestrian education campaigns
-Pedestrian crossing flags
-Walk to School Day events
-Intersection paintings
-Walking School Bus or Bike Train programs
-Bicycle safety skills building events
-Bike Rodeos
-Bike to School Day events
-Traffic circulation changes on school property

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

All public and private K-12 schools within the City of Seattle, PTAs, and other school-related nonprofit groups are eligible to apply for Mini Grants.

Pre-Application Information:

The deadline for the Department of Transportation to receive a complete application is October 31 for Fall applications and April 30 for Spring applications.

Spring Cycle:
-Application Period: April 1 - 30
-Notice of Decision: First week of June
-Funds Distributed: July
-Summary Report Deadline: June 30 of the following year

Fall Cycle:
-Application Period: October 1 - 31
-Notice of Decision: First week of December
-Funds Distributed: January
-Summary Report Deadline: December 31 of the following year
