Request a Grant Writer

Grants to Delaware and Southern Chester County, Pennsylvania nonprofit organizations to benefit local communities. Applicant must complete required registration prior to applying. Funding is intended for programs and organizations that promote culture, protect the environment, or benefit local residents. Programming, operating support, and capital projects will all be considered for funding.

Please note, applying nonprofit organizations must be located in the state of Delaware or Southern Chester County, Pennsylvania, within a four-mile radius of Longwood Gardens.

The Foundation is seeking and prefers requests with ambitious outcomes, a thoughtful and rigorous plan, and the organizational capacity to deliver (financial, leadership, experience, and more). The track record of the organization and its leadership is an important factor in the decision making process.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Foundation accepts grant requests from nonprofit organizations located in and/or benefiting the residents, environment, or culture of the State of Delaware and Southern Chester County, Pennsylvania within a four-mile radius of Longwood Gardens.

Applicants must provide a copy of the organization's 501(c)(3) letter from the IRS (tax exempt letter).

Pre-proposal Conference:

Optional grant information sessions will be held on the dates below. Registration is required.

Please take note of the following:
- Limit of two seats per organization; and, those attendees should be the organization’s leader and Board Chair. If not available, one of the two attendees must be the leader or Board Chair.
- Due to space limitations, preference will be given to nonprofit organizations that are eligible to apply in the next funding cycle.
- Please be aware that there is a pre-session “homework” assignment that is a requirement for attendance. If you are unwilling or unable to complete the homework by the due date (shown below), you will not be able to participate. This is a firm rule since the session discussion is based on the results of the homework.

Pre-Application Information:

The deadlines for grant requests are March 1 and September 1. Early submission is encouraged.

All requests must be submitted online. Prior to submitting a request, please visit Guidestar to either create a profile or review your current profile (updating as necessary).

The review of all grant requests will include an interview and/or site visit within eight weeks of the deadline. Funding decisions are generally made by the Foundation's Board within three months.

The Trustees ask that you wait two years before requesting another grant – whether this request is funded or not.

Longwood does not fund more than 50% of a project.
