Grants and scholarships to New York nonprofit organizations and individuals for programs that meet the needs of female residents of Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, and Yates Counties. Funding for nonprofits will focus on helping women and girls achieve life goals and attain economic self-sufficiency through education and health programs. For individuals, the Fund for Women awards grants and scholarships to women and girls for educational expenses.

Characteristics of eligible grant funded programs/projects include and must demonstrate that they are:
- Open and accessible to the greater community
- Open to all regardless of religious affiliation
- Available to low-income or underserved individuals

Scholarships to Individuals:
The Fund for Women of the Southern Tier, Inc. will award up to four $2,500 educational scholarships. All scholarships are based on demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to girls and women who fall into one or more of the following categories:
- First generation college students
- Non-traditional student/Adult Learners - 25 years or older
- Women who seek a diploma certification for high demand job functions in Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben and/or Yates counties at a technical school, college or university
- Girls and women who have overcome a significant challenge in their lives

Grants to Individuals:
The Fund for Women of the Southern Tier, Inc. will award up to ten $500 grants to girls and women. These grants are to be used to remove any barrier to the pursuit of their educational endeavors. Examples may include paying for college textbooks, technical supplies, assistance with past due tuition, bills, fees for professional licensing exams, etc. Award criteria includes a demonstrated financial need.

The Fund for Women of the Southern Tier, Inc. will award up to ten $500 grants to girls and women.

The Fund for Women of the Southern Tier, Inc. will award up to four $2,500 educational scholarships.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Fund for Women of the Southern Tier accepts applications from individuals and registered 501(c)3 organizations.

Non-profits: Applicants must be registered 501(c)(3) organizations located in and serving the citizens of Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben and/or Yates counties. The fund will make grant awards within the same geographic areas as the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, Inc, Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, and Yates counties of New York.

Individuals: Female applicants must live and/or work in the greater Southern Tier region. The fund will make grant awards within the same geographic area as the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, Inc., Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben and Yates counties of New York.

Proposals from faith-based organizations will be considered if: (1) service benefits all, regardless of religion; (2) service provided is not religious in nature; and (3) there is no proselytizing associated with the service.

The Fund for Women generally does not make grants for the following:
- Annual campaigns, special event fundraisers or sponsorships
- Religious purposes
- Political or partisan purposes
- Activities taking place before grant decisions are made
- Trips for schools or clubs

Pre-Application Information:

The Fund for Women of the Southern Tier accepts application once per year, on March 1. Grant awards will be announced in late May.

Organizations and individuals applying for funding are required to complete the online application form.
