Grants to Michigan nonprofit organizations, government agencies, schools, and churches in the Lowell area for programs in the areas of education, arts and culture, health, community development, human service, environment, and recreation. Priority will be given to educational projects and those serving a broad segment of the community. The Lowell area is currently defined as the City of Lowell, the Township of Lowell, and the Township of Vergennes.

The Lowell Area Community Foundation gives grants to organizations that assist in fulfilling its mission to assure community cooperation and participation, that supports a healthy, dynamic community.

It gives priority to projects that:
- Encourage and promote community involvement
- Represent an innovative startup effort
- Obtain the necessary additional funding to implement and maintain the project
- Yield substantial community benefit
- Are managed by nonprofits with 501(c)(3) status
- Serve a broad segment of the community
- Promote cooperation among agencies
- Address needs of the Lowell area
- Address quality of life issues
- Promote civic and community pride
- Strengthen or improve agency self-sufficiency or efficiency

Grant proposals should assist the applying organization to implement a project or program that benefits a broad segment of the community. The proposal should:
- Have clear goals, address an identified issue, and make a significant difference.
- Impact a significant number of residents from the City of Lowell, the Township of Lowell or Vergennes Township.
- Avoid duplication with other projects and programs in the community.
- Use requested funds to impact residents directly.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Nonprofit organizations (including churches, schools, government agencies, and community groups with a 501(c)(3) non-profit status) may apply for grants for programs that benefit residents in the City of Lowell, the Township of Lowell or Vergennes Township.

Applications from religious organizations for a non-religious purpose will be considered.

Grant proposals from religious organizations for a religious purpose and proposals to fund scholarships for individuals will not be considered.

While the Lowell Area Community Fund encourages creative and innovative projects, it generally does not support:
- Political projects, or those that are primarily cause-related
- Individuals
- Religious organizations for religious purposes
- Profit-making activities

Pre-Application Information:

Grants are reviewed by the Advisory Committee three times a year, with application deadlines on the third Friday of April, August and December. Decisions are finalized on June 30, October 31, and February 28.
