Grants of up to $5,000 to Maryland nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and religious entities in eligible counties for programs that address the needs of girls and women. Applicants are required to submit a letter of inquiry prior to a full application. Funding is intended to support local programs that serve girls in foster care, mothers in crisis, young women seeking job-readiness or leadership skills, and others. The purpose of the program is to help women and girls become stronger, more self-sufficient, and forces for positive change. Programs should serve the Lower Eastern Shore, specifically Wicomico, Worcester, or Somerset County.

Projects that have been awarded in the past will be considered and prioritized on the following basis: 1) Past performance (successes/challenges); 2) Planned Program expansion/growth;  3) Identification of Loss/Gap funding.

The grant award maximum is $5,000.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must be a 501c (3) nonprofit organization, a governmental entity, or faith-based program providing non-sectarian programs in the Maryland counties of Wicomico, Worcester and Somerset.

Camperships and/or support for summer camps will not be eligible for consideration.

In general, the Community Foundation does not fund:
- Athletic Facility Infrastructure
- Athletic Field Maintenance
- Building Campaigns
- Capital Requests
- Debt Retirement
- Endowment Funds
- Fundraising Campaigns
- Nonprofit Start Up Fees (e.g. 501c3 Articles of Incorporation or Form 1023 Filing Fees)
- Ongoing/Operating Expenses
- Operational Deficits
- Partisan Political Activities
- Playground Equipment
- Political Lobbying Activities
- Sectarian Religious Programs

Pre-Application Information:

- Letters of inquiry will be accepted for this program from February 1-22, 2021. All applicants will be reviewed by the Women's Fund Advisory Committee.
- Those applicants who are selected will be invited to the final application, which is due April 1, 2021.

If your project does not merit a full award consideration, staff will notify you at the start of the grant cycle.

All first-time applicants to the Community Foundation are required to establish a grantee relationship by making their initial application to the Community Needs grant program, which is offered twice a year.
