Grants to Texas nonprofit organizations for activities that address community needs in New Braunfels and Comal County. Funding is intended for the focus areas of basic needs, physical and mental health, education, youth, family, and senior services, community development, and capacity building.
Funding area details:
Strategic Grants: Provide course-changing funding to unmet needs in the community. Focus areas include:
- Mental and behavioral health
- Capacity building.
Basic Living Needs: Grants to assist individuals and families in crisis situations with services and intervention that lead to decreased dependence. Focus areas include:
- Financial Assistance
- Food Assistance
- Housing Instability/Assistance
Health: Provide accessible care that leads to healthy bodies and minds. Focus areas include:
- Physical health
- Mental health
- Healthcare support services
- Access to care
Education: Grants to improve the quality of life through quality education. Focus areas include:
- School readiness
- Education access and support
- After school programs
- Literacy programs
Family Relationships: Grants to empower every generation with skills and support to strengthen the family bond. Focus areas include:
- Youth Development
- Parenting Support
- Abuse/Neglect Prevention and Recovery
- Senior Services
Community Development: Grants to increase opportunities for activity, enrichment, and engagement within the community. Focus areas include:
- Arts Programs
- Parks and Recreation
- Development of Public Spaces and Services

The McKenna Foundation accepts applications from 501(c)(3) verified nonprofit organizations that serve residents of New Braunfels and Comal County.
The McKenna Foundation does not make grant awards directly to individuals. Additionally, funds are not provided for legislative lobbying or political purposes, for projects of organizations that primarily benefit their own members or adherents, or for indirect costs or payments to a national affiliate of a local organization.
Strategic Grants: An LOI is required and is accepted at any time. Strategic grants will be introduced or approved at the Board meeting most appropriate for the request.
