Sustainable Economic Development Initiative (SEDI) of Northern Arizona
Awards of $2,500 to Arizona PreK-12 teachers or groups of teachers to recognize sustainability education in Apache, Coconino, Mohave, Navajo, and Yavapai counties. Candidates will be developed and implemented units, projects, or lessons that reinforce or reflect sustainability principles for the 21st century. The contest period is the 2017/2018 school year.
The purpose of this award is to encourage and recognize development and implementation of innovative educational approaches in all disciplines (e.g. math, English, history, sciences, economics, etc.) that instill in students the importance, value and practicality of local environmental, social and economic aspects of sustainability. Note that this is not a grant. It is an award, a recognition with no strings attached.
The lesson, unit or project must have a clear connection to the environmental, social and economic aspects of sustainability as reflected by the general goals of SEDI (see Meet SEDI). The award will be based on innovative approaches, actions taken, practical applications, and sustainable outcomes. The innovative educational approach will demonstrate practical application that empowers action at the local level. The project must be aligned with the AZ Dept. of Education Standards.
Applications will be evaluated within the following groups:
-Grades pre-K through 2
-Grades 3 through 5
-Grades 6 through 8
-Grades 9 through 12

Up to four prizes will be awarded.
All classroom teachers in Apache County, Coconino County, Mohave County, Navajo County and Yavapai County are eligible.
Applications must be submitted electronically by midnight on April 9, 2018.
The awards will be given out in a special event at the 1899 Ballroom in Flagstaff, Arizona in May 2018.
