Matching grants ranging from $15,000 to $40,000 to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania nonprofit organizations for innovative solutions to increase financial stability and the quality of life. An informational meeting will be held on June 14, 2017, and applicants are encouraged to contact program staff before submitting a proposal. Community Foundation staff will review and comment on application drafts submitted by September 7, 2017.

Applications may include first-time implementation of a new approach, new business models for community benefit organizations, or scaling of evidence-based, proven creative solutions.

As part of the program, partner organizations meet as a cohort on a monthly basis to facilitate collective learning, sharing, problem-solving, and creativity. A wide range of resources is available to support grantee organizations and their cohort (partner organizations receive $1,000 to use for resources).

Matching grants of $15,000 to $40,000 are available. In addition, $1,000 is available to every organization participating in a cohort.

Term of Contract:

The funding period is November 9, 2017 to December 31, 2018.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applications must come from current 501(c)(3) community benefit organizations that are registered with or exempt from the PA Bureau of Charitable Organizations, and complete a Form 990 annually. Community Foundation staff will verify these requirements utilizing Guidestar and other online resources.

Organizations will also be required to submit:

- Audited or reviewed (not compiled, not a 990) financial statement prepared by an independent CPA firm within 12 months
- A current board of directors roster
- A current fiscal year organizational budget

The Community Foundation will not typically fund the following:

- Creation of new organization
- Schools
- Capital campaigns/capital costs (equipment, building costs, maintenance)
- Political campaigns
- Expenses incurred before the grant is awarded
- Cemetery associations
- Religious causes that further a specific belief/agenda
- Individuals

Projects must benefit residents of Lancaster County, PA. Organizations are not eligible to receive grants from the same field of interest fund for more than three consecutive years. The Community Foundation will accept only one application per project concept.

Pre-Application Information:

For this program, a 1:1 match is required. December 20, 2018 is the organizational match deadline. The match cannot be in-kind, but does not need to be new dollars.

If accepted, capacity resources will be available to support your organization and partner organizations. $1,000 is available to every organization in the cohort.

Applicants are encouraged to have a conversation with Dave Koser prior to submitting a proposal.

Community Foundation staff will review and comment on application drafts submitted by September 7, 2017. Application drafts should be submitted through the grant portal. Drafts that are saved, but not submitted, will not be considered for feedback.

On or before September 14, 2017, program staff will issue comments and revert your application back to “draft” status. You will then have the ability to make revisions and re-submit by the final September 21 deadline.

Award notification will be by phone or email, November 9, 2017.
