Grants to Northeastern Pennsylvania nonprofit organizations in eligible counties to meet the health and human service needs of local communities. Interested applicants must meet with Foundation staff prior to applying. Funding is intended to support programs in the areas of mental and behavioral health, primary healthcare, oral health and dental care, healthcare workforce, and human services.

The Foundation retains a primary focus in Lackawanna County, but welcomes grant requests from Bradford, Carbon, Luzerne, Monroe, Pike, Schuylkill, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Wayne and Wyoming Counties.

Moses Taylor Foundation dedicates a minimum of half of their resources to broadly respond to health needs within their 11-county region. They prioritize responding quickly and meaningfully to emerging needs that arise in their community, and continue to play a critical role strengthening the safety net of health and human service providers in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

In their continuous commitment to the health needs of the community, the Foundation accepts requests their partners initiate and also cultivates requests they deem critical to meet community needs.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must have a 501c3 and serve people within Northeastern Pennsylvania.

The Foundation will not fund individuals, religious organizations for religious or evangelical purposes, fundraising events, endowment funds, research, debt retirement or lobbying.

Applicant Pre-Submission Meeting:
Applicants for both Discretionary Grants and Quarterly Board-Approved Grants are required to schedule a pre-application meeting with Jeff Smith prior to a proposal submission. The meeting provides staff with an opportunity to learn about the organization’s needs and interests, and better determine if the request aligns with the Foundation’s priorities. 2021 Quarterly Grant Deadlines:

- Proposals Due: January 4, 5pm
- Site Visits: February 1-5
- Grants Funded: March 4

- Proposals Due: April 1, 5pm
- Site Visits: May 3-7
- Grants Funded: June 3

- Proposals Due: July 1, 5pm
- Site Visits: August 2-6
- Grants Funded: September 2

- Proposals Due: October 1, 5pm
- Site Visits: November 1-5
- Grants Funded: December 2

Applicants must submit a complete proposal by the deadline date and time to be considered for funding.

Quarterly Board-Approved Grants:

- Pre-submission Meeting: Applicants are required to schedule a meeting with Foundation staff prior to quarterly proposal submission. This provides staff with an opportunity to learn about the organization’s needs and interests, and better determine if the request aligns with the Foundation’s priorities.
- Proposal Submission: Applicants must submit a complete proposal by the deadline date in order to be considered for funding. Please note that the Foundation will consider only one quarterly grant request from an organization at any given time.
- Site Visit: Foundation staff will review all submitted proposals to determine if there is a fit with the Foundation’s interests. Following review, the Foundation may request additional information or a site visit for all proposals receiving further consideration. Declined applicants will receive a letter with details regarding the Foundation’s decision and recommendations for future consideration.
- Board Review: Foundation staff will provide an analysis of all proposals for review by the Foundation’s Board of Directors. Funding decisions are made during the Board’s quarterly meeting.

Discretionary proposals ($20,000 or below) are reviewed on a rolling basis to respond quickly to community need. These proposals can be submitted at any time and don’t adhere to the board-approved grants schedule:

- Pre-submission Meeting: Applicants are required to schedule a meeting with Foundation staff prior to proposal submission.
- Proposal Submission: Applicants must submit a complete proposal in order to be considered for funding.
- Site Visit (when applicable): Foundation staff will review all submitted proposals to determine if there is a fit with the Foundation’s interests. As part of the review process, the Foundation may request additional information or a site visit
- Board Review (rolling basis): Foundation staff will provide an analysis of all discretionary proposals for review by the Foundation’s Board of Directors. Funding decisions are made on a rolling basis.
