Grants of $25,000 to USA nonprofit organizations and parent-teacher organizations to support K-12 public education and to mitigate the adverse effects of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis on school-age children. In addition to a cash grant, award recipients will be given vouchers to host an ice cream party and will also have their logo featured at a pre-selected event.

Individuals can nominate a non-profit organization that directly supports K-12 public education for the opportunity to receive a cash grant, a Blue Bunny Ice Cream party, and to have their logo featured on Jimmie’s helmet during a 2020 NASCAR Cup Series race. In addition, this year non-profits that provide services to school-age students, which have been directly impacted by the Covid-19 crisis, are also eligible to be nominated.  

Eligible nominees include nonprofit organizations that currently offer programs in direct support of K-12 public education (including, but not limited to those that address literacy, arts, STEM, health & wellness and after school programming, nonprofit Parent/Teacher Organizations of K-12 public schools,  and nonprofit organizations that currently provide services to school-age children and have been directly impacted by the Covid-19 crisis (including, but not limited to those that address homelessness, domestic violence and child abuse, mental health, fostering and adoption; provide food and/or clothing; museums, etc.

Number of Grants:

A total of 5 organizations will be selected as 2020 Blue Bunny Helmet of Hope grant recipients.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Grantees will receive a $25,000 grant, a Blue Bunny Ice Cream party ($200 in vouchers will be provided), and have their logo featured on Jimmie’s helmet during the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series race.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The following are eligible to apply:

- Non Profit Organizations that currently offer programs in direct support of K-12 public education (including, but not limited to those that address literacy, arts, STEM, health & wellness and after school programming. Non-profit must have 501 c 3 designation from IRS), or
- Parent/Teacher Organizations of K-12 public schools (must have 501 c 3 designation from IRS), or
- Non Profit Organizations that currently provide services to school-age children and have been directly impacted by the Covid-19 crisis (including, but not limited to those that address homelessness, domestic violence and child abuse, mental health, fostering and adoption; provide food and/or clothing; museums, etc. Non-profit must have 501 c 3 designation from IRS)

This Initiative focuses on charities that work with K-12 public schools and/or districts in the fifty United States and the District of Columbia.

Please Note: In order to be eligible for the Blue Bunny Helmet of Hope, charities must directly support K-12 public education/schools through existing programs and activities. In addition, non-profits that provide services to school-age children and are on the front lines/directly impacted by the Covid-19 crisis are eligible.

Schools (public, private, parochial, etc) are not eligible for this program.

Past recipients of a Blue Bunny Helmet of Hope grant are not eligible to apply.

Charities that are competitive to the existing partners of the Foundation, as determined by the Foundation in its sole discretion, are ineligible to apply.

Nominators:

- Individuals submitting nominations must be residents of one of the fifty United States or the District of Columbia who are eighteen (18) years of age or older.
- If an individual submits more than one nomination, all nominations other than the first one received by Foundation from such individual will be disqualified.
- Employees (as well as their immediate family members, parents, children, siblings, spouses and others living in the same household, whether related or not) of the Foundation, Jimmie Johnson Racing, Hendrick Motorsports, Wells Enterprises, Inc. (“Wells”) and their affiliates and any other persons or entities involved in the execution or administration of the Initiative are not eligible to submit nominations.

Pre-Application Information:

Nominations must be received by 3:00pm EDT on Friday, June 5, 2020.

Process:

1. Round One: Nominate a Charity
Nominations will be accepted from Friday, April 24, 2020 until 3:00pm EDT on Friday, June 5, 2020. Nine (9) nominations will be selected to move on to Round Two. The 10th charity will be selected by Blue Bunny.

2. Round Two: Voting* will be open from 12:00pm (noon) EDT on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 until 3:00pm EDT on Tuesday, June 30, 2020.The public will vote for their favorite charity from the ten (10) semi-finalists selected in Round One. The five (5) charities that received the most votes will be the award recipients.

*Important Note about Voting: During the Round Two Voting period, only votes submitted from the webpage will be counted. Individuals can vote multiple times, but cheating WILL NOT be tolerated. The use of automated voting is strictly prohibited. Any IP address flagged as even potentially using automated voting will be blocked and all votes associated with that IP address will be disqualified. No exceptions.
