Grants of up to $3,000 to Western Montana organizations that provide hospice and palliative care services to indigent individuals who cannot afford such services. Priority will be given to organizations serving Missoula, Lake, Sanders, and Mineral Counties. By recognizing and acting upon this need, the Foundation strives to increase the number of individuals served.

These Grants are only awarded to reimburse organizations for unpaid and unreimbursed costs of providing palliative and hospice care services to indigent individuals including:

  • Pain and Symptom Control
  • Spiritual Care
  • Home Care
  • Inpatient Care
  • Respite Care
  • Bereavement/Grief Care
  • Home Hospice Needs
  • Patient Care Items/Services

Maximum awarded per organization: $3,000
Additional Grants or Grants of more than $3,000 may be awarded should additional funding become available and only if approved by the Board of Directors.

Term of Contract:

If full grant amount is not expended within 12-months from award date, the organization may apply for a 12-month No-Cost Extension in order to fully utilize the award.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligible applicants are hospice and/or palliative care organizations in Western Montana that provide care to indigent individuals.

Organizations serving Lake, Mineral, Missoula, and Sanders counties will be given priority.

Compassionate Care Grants do not cover:
- Cost of staff salary or fringe benefits (except in cases of bereavement services)
- Costs which will be paid by the patient, his family and/or insurance
- Costs which will be reimbursed through other funding sources

Pre-Application Information:

Applications are accepted between February 1, 2020, and April 30, 2020. The deadline for applications is 3:00 PM Mountain Time.

Annually, awards will be announced no later than May 29, 2020.

Each organization may submit one application per geographic location.
