Grants to Western Montana hospice and palliative care organizations for end-of-life volunteer care services. Preference is given to organizations that serve Missoula, Lake, Sanders, and Mineral Counties. Funding is intended to support volunteer programs that assist hospice patients and their families, as well as volunteer recognition events.

Allowable expenses include:

  • Volunteer recruitment (brochures, advertising, etc.)
  • Training materials for volunteers (books, webinars, seminars, etc.)
  • Items for volunteer identification (program tee shirts, name badges, etc.)
  • Luncheon, dinner, or other event for recognition of active volunteers in good standing with the organization
  • Other volunteer-related activities approved by the Hospice Care Foundation¬†

HCF anticipates funding three (3) Honoring our Heroes Grants in 2020.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Honoring our Heroes Grants are awarded on an annual basis, up to $1,000.00 per organization per year. Additional Grants or Grants of more than $1,000.00 may be awarded should additional funding become available and only if approved by the Board of Directors.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Honoring Our Heroes Grant is open to hospice and/or palliative care organizations in Western Montana that utilize volunteers to provide end-of-life services.

Organizations may apply for an Honoring our Heroes Grant for their organization no more than once per year, per county in which they provide services and maintain an office (i.e. an organization with offices in Missoula and St. Regis may submit two applications, one for each location, although no more than one location would be funded).

Honoring our Heroes Grants do not cover:

- Cost of staff salary, fringe benefits, or other personnel costs
- Volunteer mileage reimbursements
- Materials used in the clinical care of hospice patients (i.e. medical supplies, nutritional supplements, etc.)
- Costs which will be covered or reimbursed through other funding sources

Pre-Application Information:

Applications will be accepted from February 1, 2020. Application Deadline will be 3:00pm Mountain Time, April 30, 2020.

Annual Grants will be awarded no later than Friday, May 29, 2020.

Organizations must take the Eligibility Quiz if they wish to apply for a 2020 Honoring our Heroes Grant. If prompted, they may continue to the 2020 online application.

Each organization may submit one application per geographic location.
