Grants of up to $20,000 and grants starting at $20,000 to Ohio nonprofits for programs that promote entrepreneurship and innovation among youth, college students, and adults in Northeast Ohio. Applicants for larger grants must first contact the funding source. Funding is also available for community initiatives in Hudson, Ohio.
Funding will be provided for entrepreneurship education programs and programs that directly support entrepreneurs in business planning, startup, and scale-up efforts, and obtaining access to capital.
The Foundation also supports initiatives aimed at rejuvenating economic competitiveness in Northeast Ohio.
Burton D. Morgan Foundation awards grants in the following four areas of focus:
Investing in entrepreneurship education programs for elementary, middle, and high school students throughout Northeast Ohio.
Driving collegiate entrepreneurship initiatives, including NEOLaunchNET, business competitions, and internship programs.
Strengthening Northeast Ohio’s entrepreneurship networks to support all stages of business growth and foster a robust entrepreneurial culture.
Supporting education, arts and culture, social services, and civic activities in the Foundation's home community of Hudson, Ohio.

Please note that there are different application deadlines for grant requests over $20,000 and grant requests for $20,000 and under, though the application forms are the same.
Grants are made to organizations classified as public charities and tax exempt under 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code.
For-profit companies and startups are not eligible to apply for funding directly from the Foundation. Burton D. Morgan Foundation does not make grants to individuals.
The Foundation’s primary geographic focus for mission-related grant funding is Northeast Ohio. Projects with a national impact are occasionally considered.
The Trustees of Burton D. Morgan Foundation typically meet three times each year, during January/February, June, and September to consider requests.
Application Deadlines for Requests of $20,000 or Less
- May 15 for September Meeting
- September 15 for January/February Meeting
- February 15 for June Meeting
Application Deadlines for Requests Greater than $20,000
- May 1 for September Meeting
- September 1 for January/February Meeting
- February 1 for June Meeting
When the deadline falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday, the online Application will be due by 5:00 pm on the next business day.
If you are submitting an Application for more than $20,000, you should first contact Grants Manager, Gina Dotson, by phone or email if you have not received funding from Burton D. Morgan Foundation in the past three years or if you are applying for a different project. You may then be routed to a program officer for additional discussion about the project, if necessary. If your Application is for $20,000 or less, you do not need to contact the Foundation before submitting your Application.
If you have received grant funding from Burton D. Morgan Foundation in the past three years for the same purpose, if you have been encouraged to apply after contacting the Foundation, or if your request is $20,000 or less, you may submit an Application though the online eGrant system (click on link below).
