Allegany County Area Foundation (ACAF)

Deadline Date:

12/03/21

Description:

Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $1,000 to New York nonprofit organizations in eligible locations to enhance the quality of life for local residents. Priority will be given to special projects that are non-recurring rather than to campaigns that support general operational expenses. Eligible projects benefit residents in Allegany County.

In determining the merits and priority of an application, particular consideration will be given to the following criteria:

  • Seriousness of the problem and adequacy of the proposed action to meet the problem;
  • Breadth of the potential benefit in terms of the number of people served;
  • Capacity of the applicant organization and its personnel to achieve the expected benefits;
  • Availability of support from alternative public or private sources;
  • Possibility of future support to supplement or replace the proposed grant.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Generally, the Foundation will award grants of between $250 and $1,000. (Over the years a few have been approved at $1,500.)

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Grant recipients are primarily public charitable organizations with 501c(3) tax status that serve Allegany County residents.

The Foundation will support the development of a new organization only when, in the judgment of the Board, no effective institution exists in the community to carry out a needed program or purpose.

Grants will not be made to religious organizations for primarily religious purposes. A religious organization will be considered for a grant in support of a project that is intended for general public benefit and/or use.

No grant will be made to an organization that does not provide for adequate accounting and reporting procedures.

With the exception of specially designated scholarship funds, the Foundation does not award financial assistance to individuals.

Grants will not be made to any permanent endowment of the applicant organization.

Grant application for activities and projects that are political or partisan in nature will not be considered.

In general, the Foundation will not support building campaigns.

Pre-Application Information:

Grant seekers wishing to be considered at ACAF’s fall Grant Committee meeting should submit their application materials by Friday, December 3rd.

The ACAF Grant Committee meets before board meetings in September, December, March, and June.
