Foundation / Corporation
Keep Iowa Beautiful and Iowa Grocery Industry Association (IGIA)
Grants of up to $2,000 to Iowa nonprofit organizations, service clubs, and government agencies for plastic bag recycling programs aimed at protecting the environment. Funding is intended to support the re-use of plastic shopping bags in the manufacturing process of equipment, outdoor furniture, and other products that will be purchased for parks and schools.
The Build with Bags program has defined four primary goals:
- Reduce the consumption of plastic bags,
- Encourage the use of reusable bags,
- Increase the number of plastic bags recycled, and
- Establish a grant program to aid parks and schools in purchasing products made of recycled plastic bags
The BWB grant program supports “closing the plastic bag loop” by demonstrating how recycled plastic bags can be re-used in the manufacturing of outdoor furniture and equipment. Although there are a number of firms that provide recycled plastic content, furniture and equipment, the BWB program encourages grant recipients to use Iowa’s own Plastic Recycling of Iowa Falls (www.plasticrecycling.us). Items must be made of recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic (the base material for making plastic shopping bags).
GrantWatch ID#: 180812

The deadline for applications is March 30. Grant awards will be announced each year on April 22 (Earth Day).
