Grants to Berks County, Pennsylvania nonprofits for projects that will benefit the local community. Applicants should contact the Foundation before applying. First drafts for grant requests are due August 28. Funding may be awarded to projects in the areas of economic development, arts, environment, health, and human services.

Currently, all grants are looked at through the lens of economic development. Therefore, it is advisable to show how the request from an organization, whether it is an arts, environmental or health, and human service agency, impacts economic development. The requesting organization must provide evidence of the criticality of the issue and measurable indicators of how the grant will address the community issue.

Most grants are given for one-year; multi-year grants are given on an occasional basis.

Organizations must be nonprofit and classified 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt by the Internal Revenue Service.

As a general rule, the Foundation does not fund operating support on a sustained basis.

Proposals that are not generally considered include:

- Requests for endowments;
- Operating funds on a sustaining basis;
- Funds for individuals, social or fraternal organizations or profit-making enterprises;
- Purchase of tickets, tables, advertisements or sponsorships;
- Parties, conferences, fairs or festivals;
- Animal rights programs;
- Those activities that would jeopardize the Foundation’s charitable status.

Organizations seeking grants from The Foundation are encouraged to contact the Foundation’s president prior to submitting the request.

Grant requests may be initiated at any time during the year, however, Foundation grants are awarded only at the Board’s quarterly meetings.
