Grants of up to $50,000 to Wyoming public school districts to enhance educational opportunities for students at all grade levels. Funding is available for new and unique opportunities across a range of educational disciplines. For the current grant cycle, priority funding is intended for the development or improvement of computer science programs and career-development initiatives that involve computer science. The purpose of the grant is to create innovative educational opportunities for public school students at all levels.

Competitive priorities include:
a. Computer science course creation or changes in curriculum to integrate computer science into all content areas
b. Professional Development related to teaching Computer Science but not resulting in licensure unless that certification falls under the Computer Science or Computing Technology Endorsement
c. Professional development leading to PTSB endorsement/PIC permit to teach computer science or computing technology
d. Collaboration in computer science with another district
e. Creation of a project, including but not limited to makerspace, STEM lab, robotics lab, design labs.

Examples of potential projects:
i. Integration of Computer Science practices and concepts into the full curriculum
ii. Creation of a Computer Science course to be offered in the district or virtually statewide
iii. Creation of a STEM lab, MakerSpace, or Computer Science Education lab
iv. Collaboration with other districts in or out of state in creation and integration of Computer Science throughout the curriculum

Funding should provide innovation in or improvement of public education through the creation of new, different and improved educational opportunities in elementary and secondary schools inclusive of the following:
-Curriculum development activities
-Operational initiatives, such as modification to class schedules, school day, week, month or year calendar and scheduling of extracurricular activities.
-Administrator and staff development and improvement programs
-Acquisition of technological equipment for programs
-Applied science and technology programs designed to meet future labor market demands and to integrate public school programs with needs of business and industry.
-Technical preparation programs integrating public school programs with community college programs and working with business and industry to prepare students for technical and academic careers.
-Evaluation programs to determine the effect and achievement of innovative programs previously funded or currently provided within the district.
-Public early childhood programs. including those designed to better prepare children for elementary school, and to improve parents’ skills in developing their children’s learning skills.

An estimated five (5) to seven (7) grants will be awarded.

Estimated Size of Grant:

No grant request shall exceed $50,000.

Term of Contract:

Funds through the Wyoming Education Trust Fund are available for one-year grants.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Grants will be made to public school districts.

Districts may apply individually or in conjunction with other districts.

W.S. 21-22-107 (c) clearly states that at least one qualifying grant must be awarded if possible in each of the following classifications based on average daily membership (ADM):
-Classification I Less than 500 ADM;
-Classification II 500 but less than 1,000 ADM;
-Classification III 1,000 but less than 2,000 ADM;
-Classification IV 2,000 or greater ADM.

Pre-Application Information:

Applicants must submit one copy of the application with original signatures. Must be postmarked by 5:00 pm on the deadline date of April 26, 2019.

Electronic copies will be accepted IF received by 5:00 pm on deadline date of April 26 AND IF one original copy is submitted with original signatures and postmarked by deadline date.
