Grants ranging from $2,500 to $5,000 to Maine nonprofit theaters and theater groups to enhance theater presentation throughout the State. Funding is intended to support both community and professional theater organizations with live theater production. Assistance will be given for capacity-building, capital, programming, and operating expenses.

The goal of the Maine Theater Fund is to strengthen and sustain theater performance throughout the state.

Awards are typically between $2,500 and $5,000, although larger awards may be considered.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Proposals for funding will be accepted from local, regional and statewide nonprofit theaters or theater groups in Maine whose primary purpose is the production of live theater.

Applicants eligible for a grant from the Maine Community Foundation include:

- Nonprofit 501(c)(3) federal tax-exempt organizations, including most municipalities
- Public schools
- Public agencies working for the State of Maine
- Indian tribal governments (or political subdivisions) recognized by the Department of the Interior
- Non-exempt groups with a fiscal sponsor that is a 501(c)(3) organization, public school, or public agency

Theaters whose main purpose is to present social messaging and/or health and wellness education will NOT be considered for funding.

The following will not be funded:
- Expenses already incurred
- Political campaigns
- Lobbying in the form of calls to action on a specific vote
- Religious activities: including, but not limited to, religious services, promotion of religious beliefs, or activities that are restricted to church or religious group membership

Pre-Application Information:

Online applications must be submitted by 11:59 PM on September 15, 2018, regardless of whether that day is on a weekend or a holiday.

Awards will be announced in late November. All applicants will receive notice of the committee's decisions.
