Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $5,000 to New Hampshire and Vermont nonprofit organizations, public agencies, and schools for short term projects to promote ecological and environmental education in the Upper Valley region. Supporting place-based, high-quality education for school-aged youth, with an emphasis on K-8 education in underserved New Hampshire school districts, such as Claremont, Mascoma, and Newport is the key objective.

Funding is intended for specific, discrete, short-term projects that address the key objective by implementing one or more of the "Strategies to meet the Key Objective". These may include planning and design, start-up for new or expanded initiatives, equipment or supplies for new or existing programs and implementing successful practices etc.

Strategies to Meet the Key Objective:
- Starting or enhancing place-based, experientially-oriented, ecology-education programs in schools by supporting teachers, schools, school districts, and the nonprofit organizations that work with them.
- Supporting teachers to participate in professional development programs that specialize in place-based ecology education.
- Enhancing hands-on, nature-based outdoor learning approaches that are tied to Common Core and Next Generation Science standards.
- Improving, enhancing or creating access to natural areas within walking distance of schools, and helping to integrate learning opportunities in those natural areas with school curriculum.
- Providing opportunities for youth to have nature-immersion experiences in school programs.
