Grants ranging from $250 to $15,000 to West Virginia nonprofit organizations for capital projects, equipment, and special programs that will improve the quality of life for residents of Nicholas County. Funding is intended for programs in the focus areas of arts, culture, education, health, human services, recreation, and youth and family services.
Within these focus areas, the foundation places priority on supporting:
- Start up of new projects/programs of established organizations
- One time projects/programs;
- Seed money for pilot projects or for responding to unmet or emerging community needs;
- Matching grants that leverage additional funding;
- Projects that reach a broad segment of the community;
- Projects not adequately served by existing community resources;
- Expansion of existing programs.

Grant awards will typically range between $250 - $15,000.
Grants will be made for one year only. Extensions and changes in scope may be approved by the grant distribution committee.
Only 501(c)(3) not for profit organizations, public institutions and governmental entities are eligible to apply. In accordance with the terms of the fund agreement “the interests of churches and other religious organization are not eligible for funding.
Nonprofit organizations in Nicholas County are encouraged to apply for the competitive grantmaking funds.
Unrestricted grants are not made for day to day operating expenses; annual campaigns; endowments; sectarian religious purposes; existing obligations, debts, or liabilities; or travel/participation in meetings, conferences, seminars, or study exchange programs.
No grants will not be made for political purposes or lobbying activities.
All applications must be postmarked by Saturday, September 1, 2018.
This year applicants are asked to submit the application to the Foundation also by email, if possible, as well as the entire application packet through the United States Postal Service. Only complete applications, with all the required attachments, which are postmarked on or before September 1, 2018 will be reviewed.
Organizations will be notified by November 1, 2018 of the status of their grant request. No work on the project may begin until notification of grant funding has been received.
