Grants of up to $50,000 to Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania nonprofit organizations for programs and projects that enhance the quality of life in the local community. Letters of Intent are due by October 1 for the October 15 application deadline. There are three distinct grant opportunities for the 2017 grant cycle:

- Community Needs Grants (up to $25,000 awards): Community Needs Grants fund a wide range of nonprofit programs that respond to a particular community need or issue, and that enhance the quality of life in Lackawanna County. SAF will conduct three open grant cycles annually for Community Needs Grants. In order to be considered, complete applications for Community Needs Grants must be received by either February 15th, May 15th or October 15th.

- Collaborative Impact Grants (up to $50,000 awards): Collaborative Impact Grants fund a significant or large-scale project developed and implemented by multiple organizations working collaboratively. There will be one Collaborative Community Impact Grant cycle annually. In order to be considered, complete applications for Collaborative Impact Grants must be received by May 15th.

- Critical Needs Grants (up to $10,000 awards): Critical needs grants will be made for emergencies or pressing, unanticipated needs. Critical needs grants will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis throughout the year.

Focus Areas:

As a Community Foundation, The Scranton Area Foundation responds to community needs and opportunities with grants in such diverse fields as health, education, arts, environment, human services, and civic affairs. For these funds, the Scranton Area Foundation will give preference to non-health related grant requests.

Note: Organizations may apply for multiple types of grants at the Scranton Area Foundation within the same funding period.

- Community Needs Grants: Up to $25,000 awards
- Collaborative Impact Grants: Up to $50,000 awards
- Critical Needs Grants: Up to $10,000 awards*

*In general, critical needs grants will be made at a level at or below $10,000. In specific instances where the organization wishes to apply for a larger grant, it is important that they contact the foundation in advance of submission of a Letter of Intent.

In general, the Scranton Area Foundation does not fund multi-year grants.

In general, grants will be awarded to 501c3 organizations which enhance the quality of life in Lackawanna County.

In general, the Scranton Area Foundation does not fund capital campaigns*, annual campaigns, or multi-year grants.

*In situations where capital improvements can be directly related to program impact or are integral to enhancing the quality of life of our area, they may be considered. Please contact the foundation before submitting a LOI.

Application Process:

The application process begins with a Letter of Intent (LOI).

Deadlines for letters of Intent are:

- February 1st for the February 15th grant application deadline
- May 1st for the May 15th application deadline
- October 1st for the October 15th application deadline.

Applicants invited to submit a full application will be notified by SAF and assigned login credentials to access the online application through the SAF Website.
