Opportunity for Kentucky and Indiana artists in the greater Louisville area who are at a pivotal point in their careers to participate in a professional development seminar. Artists from the following disciplines are encouraged to apply: Dance, Media, Music, Theater and Literary, and Visual Art. The 6-month learning and engagement program will help artists cultivate an expanded peer network, build their professional practice, and dedicate time for reflection and planning.

Through a competitive application process, visual, performing, and literary artists demonstrating a strong creative vision and a readiness to pursue their careers as working artists will be selected.

Each artist is asked to select only one primary discipline:

Choreography, ballet, modern, tap, jass, hip-hop

Visual Art:
Painting, drawing, sculpture, multi-media, printmaking, glass, textiles, ceramics

Theater and Literacy:
Playwriting, screenwriting, spoken word, fiction, non-fiction, poetry

Photography, film, animation, graphic design, new media

Instrumental, vocal, composition, improvisation

Competitive Applicants are:
-Imaginative, rigorous, and well-executed
-Compelling with a distinctive vision and authentic voice
-Bold and risk-taking
-Technically proficient and demonstrate a high level of craftsmanship
-Expanding artistic practice within their field and arts community

Number of Grants:

15 Hadley Creatives will be selected.

Term of Contract:

The opening retreat is November 10, 2018, and the closing retreat is April 14, 2019.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants should:

- Be generative (those artists responsible for generating or creating entirely new work) rather than interpretive (artists who interpret or execute work created by others). Some artists participate in both generative and interpretive work, but the Hadley Creatives seeks artists with a significant history in generative work.
- Demonstrate a readiness and eagerness to actively participate in the program by engaging with fellow artists and facilitators in a meaningful way.
- Have a demonstrated history of devoting themselves to meaningful, focused artistic activity outside of a degree-granting program (minimum of 3 years).
- Pursue the creation of original work within a specific artistic discipline as a means to livelihood or a way to achieve the highest level of professional recognition.
- Work in their art form 15 or more hours per week.
- Be at least 18 years or older by October 1st, 2018.
- Live in the greater Louisville area. (The greater Louisville area is defined as Bullitt, Henry, Jefferson, Oldham, Shelby, Spencer, and Trimble Counties in Kentucky; and Clark, Floyd, Harrison, Scott, and Washington Counties in Indiana.)
- Be able to attend the mandatory sessions:

The Community Foundation and Creative Capital are committed to diversity in all its forms. Artists of color, artists with disabilities, and/or those who identify as LGBTQIA+ are especially encouraged to apply.

Artists who will be enrolled in BFA or MFA programs during the 6-month program are not eligible.

Pre-proposal Conference:

The application will ask each artist to express a level of commitment for attending and fully engaging in each of the mandatory dates listed below. An artist who is unable to fully commit should reconsider applying for this opportunity

Mandatory Sessions:
- Orientation: Sunday, October 21, 2018 (evening)
- Opening Retreat: Saturday - Sunday, November 10 -11, 2018 (overnight)
- Workshop 1: Monday, December 17, 2018 (evening)
- Workshop 2: Monday, January 14, 2019 (evening)
- Workshop 3: Monday, February 11, 2019 (evening)
- Workshop 4: Monday, March 11, 2019 (evening)
- Closing Retreat: Sunday, April 14, 2019 (morning & afternoon)

Hadley Creatives Program Schedule:

Orientation: Sunday, October 21, 2018 5-7 PM, 21c Museum Hotel (Louisville, KY)
-Meet current class and network with former Hadley Creatives Class

Opening Retreat: Sunday, November 10-11, 2018 21c Museum Hotel (Louisville, KY)
-Weekend immersion retreat facilitated by Creative Capital focusing on individual goal setting, strategic planning, fundraising, and promotion strategies, as well as group exercises to encourage peer support and community building. Artists will be required to stay overnight at 21c; room and meals will be provided by the Community Foundation and partners.

Monthly Workshops: Primarily 2nd Monday (Dec 12, 2018, Jan 14, Feb 11, and April 14, 2018), 5:30 - 8 PM Locations to be determined.
-Mandatory workshops based on artists' needs covering such topics as Contracts and Intellectual Property, Art Advocacy and Activism, Working with Institutions, Writing Competitive Grants and Proposals, and Social Media Marketing.

Artists' Closing Retreat: Sunday, April 14, 2018, 9 AM - 5:00 PM, Location to be determined
-Creative Capital will return to wrap up the program, providing individualized support on topics covered throughout the program and a roadmap for continued success and growth.

Pre-Application Information:

Applications should be received by Monday, August 20th, 2018 at midnight. Late submissions will not be accepted. The application is administered online and all applications must be submitted through the online portal.

Artists invited to participate in Hadley Creatives will be required to attend and fully engage in the program. Please review the schedule below before submitting an application.
