Grants to Delaware and Southern Chester County, Pennsylvania nonprofit organizations that work to promote the social welfare local residents. Funding is primarily intended to support capital projects (not endowments) related to the areas of education, arts, environment, civic affairs, health and hospitals, housing, and social services.

While the Foundation has provided funding for operating support requests in the past, and will continue to provide funding for some operating support requests on an occasional basis, it will remain the exception and not the norm. If you have a need for operational support and plan to apply for it, the Foundation kindly asks that you please schedule a time to meet to discuss the specifics of your request prior to submitting your application.

The Foundation will typically award approximately $5 million in grants each year and has made grants to nonprofits totaling approximately $130 million in the past 25 years.

Organizations must have 501(c)(3) status and work to promote the social welfare of people and communities in Delaware and southern Chester County, Pennsylvania.

Organization must not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, creed, national origin, disability, handicap, age, sexual orientation and/or gender identity, martial status, veteran status or any other basis prohibited by law.

- Political candidates, causes, organizations, or campaigns
- Churches, synagogues, and temples
- Fundraising activities, such as galas, benefits, dinners, and sporting events
- Goodwill advertising, souvenir journals, or event programs
- Individual needs, including scholarships, sponsorships, and other forms of financial aid
- Travel for individuals or groups

Application Process:

The Welfare Foundation has two application cycles each year - one in the Spring and one in the Fall - with the following deadline dates:

Spring Cycle - April 15th
Fall Cycle - October 15th

Please Note: If you have a need for operational support and plan to apply for it, the Foundation kindly asks that you please schedule a time to meet to discuss the specifics of your request prior to submitting your application.

The Trustees meet in early June to review the Spring grant applications and then in early December to review the Fall grant applications.

Applicants will typically be notified whether or not they were awarded a grant within two weeks of the Trustee meeting, and those awarded funding will receive a check shortly thereafter.

Starting in the Spring of 2017, grant applications must be submitted via the organization's new online application system, which can be found at the link below.

Applications must be submitted by midnight EST on the application deadline dates shown above or else they will not be considered for funding. If the deadline dates above fall on a weekend (Saturday or Sunday), then the deadline will be 8am EST the following Monday.
