Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $2,500 and grants of up to $5,000 to Alabama nonprofit organizations, government agencies, schools, and libraries for statewide or local efforts to honor and celebrate the state’s people, culture, and heritage. Funding may be requested for projects, activities, and events that commemorate Alabama’s 200th anniversary.

To be considered for a community grant, the applicant must demonstrate to the commission's satisfaction that the proposed project meets the following required criteria.

Projects or programs must:
-Be relevant to the commission's mission
-Have the support of the local community or county's bicentennial committee
-Have the support of the local municipal or county government
-Be open and accessible to the public
-Be culturally inclusive
-Be achievable

Community Grants
-Who can apply: municipal governments, 501c3 organizations, or local bicentennial committees

County Grants:
-Who can apply: county commission offices, 501c3 organizations, or local bicentennial committees

Exclusion Clause:

The Alabama Bicentennial Commission Foundation will not fund the following:
-Individuals (i.e., candidates for public office)
-For-profit ventures
-Political organizations

Funds awarded by the Alabama Bicentennial Commission Foundation for bicentennial-related activities and projects will be awarded in compliance with State of Alabama Ethics Commission guidelines. Projects that create a conflict of interest with members of the Alabama Bicentennial Commission and/or Alabama Bicentennial Commission Foundation will not be funded.

The Alabama Bicentennial Commission Foundation reserves the right to withhold and/or recover grant funds if funds are not used in accordance with the approved application.

Funding is available for one grant per county or community. To find out if your county or community has been funded, please see the Supporting Documents below.

Please note that all applications should be submitted by or with the endorsement of the local bicentennial committee and the local municipality or county commission. For a directory of committees, click here:

Deadlines:
-Feb. 1, notification on Mar. 1
-Mar. 9, notification on Apr. 6
-Apr. 20, notification on May 18
-June 1, notification on June 29
-Dates after June will be announced if funds are still available.

2018 grants will be awarded at the community and county levels on a rolling basis up to June 29, 2018, or until all funds are committed.
