Scholarships to greater New Haven area, Connecticut youth ages 14 to 19 for educational travel opportunities to Israel. Funding is intended to enrich the Jewish education and Jewish identity of recipients, to enhance their community, and increase their likelihood to engage with Jewish life in the future. Eligible Israel programs are both short-term (minimum of three-weeks) and long-term and should begin anytime from the summer after ninth grade through high school graduation, including a gap year.

Eligible programs must be educational and can include formal community service, volunteer work, and formal study. The program must be sponsored or part of a recognized organization or institution.

Term of Contract:

The applicant must participate in an approved program to Israel which is a minimum of 3 weeks that will begin anytime from the summer after ninth grade through high school graduation, including a gap year.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Israel Scholarship program is open to Jewish students 14-19 years of age who live in the Greater New Haven area.

Pre-Application Information:

The applicant must submit two letters of recommendation from two of the following individuals: Rabbi, teacher, coach, or other formal advisor.

- For 2019 summer trips, applications are due by Saturday, March 09, 2019.
- For 2019-2020 gap or academic year programs, applications are due by Saturday, May 04, 2019.

Award notices will be sent by Tuesday, April 02, 2019 for summer trips and by Friday, May 31, 2019 for gap or academic year programs.

Please note: Award checks will be made out to the Israel trip provider and sent directly to them. Families are responsible for providing the committee with all contact information for the provider.

The applicant should seek additional sources of scholarship funding from his/her synagogue (if affiliated) and the applicable Israel program/sponsoring organization.
