Grants starting at $5,000 to South Carolina nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and academic institutions to enhance oral health for residents of all ages. Applicants are required to submit an LOI prior to applying. Funding is generally awarded for capacity building projects, equipment purchase, or specific projects and programs.

The objectives of the Delta Dental Grant Program are to:
-Reduce oral disease through education, prevention and treatment.
-Ensure access to affordable, timely and high-quality dental health care.
-Enhance the awareness of good oral health with a focus on children, the indigent, and other underserved populations.
-Make a measurable difference in the oral health of South Carolinians, with an emphasis on underserved populations.
-Ensure South Carolina is among the states with the highest indicators of oral health.

Preference will be given to proposals showing a dollar-for dollar level of matching from other sources.

Estimated Size of Grant:

- Minimum Grant Amount: $5,000
- Maximum Grant Amount: $100,000

Term of Contract:

All approved grants will be for a single year of support. Grant funding is guaranteed for the one-year grant term and does not necessarily indicate continuing support in subsequent years.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Organizations receiving funding must:
-Be a public charity classified as exempt from federal income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; or
-Be a public or governmental entity or academic institution such as a public school or health department.
-Serve individuals in the state of South Carolina.

Organizations should only submit one (1) grant request per organization within the application time frame. Additional requests will not be considered for funding.

Grants are generally not awarded for the following:
-Direct payment or reimbursement to individuals for dental services
-Projects or programs not related to improving oral health in South Carolina
-Religious purposes
-Lobbying, political or fraternal activities
-For-profit organizations
-Existing deficits
-Retroactive funding for projects that have been complete or will be complete prior to the grant decision date
-Organizations that discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, gender expression, age, disability, marital status, sexual orientation or military status

Pre-Application Information:

The grants program is a two-stage process, which consists of submitting a letter of inquiry and, if invited, submitting a full application.

Materials should be submitted online no later than midnight on the respective deadline date.

May 2019 Grant Cycle:
- Online Letter of Inquiry Due: March 25, 2019
- Online Full Application Due: April 2, 2019
- Charitable Giving Meeting: May 3, 2019

November 2019 Grant Cycle:
- Online Letter of Inquiry Due: September 18, 2019
- Online Full Application Due: Sept. 25, 2019 (final deadline for 2019)
- Charitable Giving Meeting: October 25, 2019

Letters of Inquiry will be reviewed within two weeks of submission to determine if the program/project is ready to move forward with a full application. The LOI due date is the final date LOIs can be submitted to be considered for the grant cycle.
