Louisiana Department of Education and Well-Ahead Louisiana
Grants of $5,000 to Louisiana schools to promote healthy school environments, physical activity, and healthy nutrition. In addition to funding support, all selected schools will receive ongoing technical assistance. Participating schools will further the goal of healthy learning environments through the following strategies:
-Incorporate Serving Up MyPlate: A Yummy Curriculum or the SuperTracker Nutrition Lesson Plans for High School Students into the classroom;
-Communicate health messaging across multiple channels;
-Implement Smarter Lunchrooms strategies and other changes that will help create a healthier school environment.
Schools must meet the following criteria to be considered for the grant:
-Schools must designate at least one representative from the applicant school to attend regional trainings and grant meetings. In 2017-2018, there will be a minimum of 2 grant meetings. There will be grant meetings and trainings throughout the duration of the three- year grant (2017-2020).
-Schools must have a team (two or more individuals), wellness council, or School Health Advisory Council willing to implement the mini-grant goals and objectives.
-Schools must be committed to creating healthy school environments that support students’ healthy eating patterns.

This program will award a grant to 15 schools.
Each school will have the opportunity to be awarded $5,000 ($2,500 in 2018-2019 and $2,500 in 2019-2020).
This program awards three-year grants.
Louisiana schools are eligible.
Schools must be participating in the United States Department of Agriculture National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program.
The grant application will open November 9, 2017 and close January 31, 2018.
