Grants to Maryland nonprofit organizations, government agencies, religious organizations, and civic groups in eligible areas to benefit local residents. Funding is intended to support programs and activities within the focus areas of human services, health, historic preservation, the arts, agriculture, civic causes, animal welfare, education, youth programs, and more. Eligible applicants serve the residents of Frederick County.

The Impact Cycle supports two possible impacts:

  • P means that a fund is available to support projects.
  • IN means that a fund is available to support identified households or individuals.

Estimated Size of Grant:

- Minimum Request: $500
- Maximum Request: Fund-specific

Applicants awarded grants must return any unused monies at the end of the grant period or the Community Foundation requires the return of the grant if the conditions of the grant are not met.

Term of Contract:

Grants must be used during the period of January 1, 2022 – December 31, 2022.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Community Foundation administers grants to organizations providing direct benefits to Frederick County, Maryland.

The applicant must be:
- An already existing nonprofit, 501c3 organization in good standing with the IRS,
- An existing government/quasi-governmental agency applying for an extraordinary project that is not funded by tax revenue,
- A religious organization requesting funding for non-sectarian activities, or
- A civic group that is not a 501c3 organization requesting funding for a community cause.

In addition, 501c3 organizations must be in good standing with:
- Maryland Secretary of State's charitable division
- Department of Assessment & Taxation's Maryland Personal Property tax division
- IRS, as assessed via GuideStar’s Charity Check

Pre-Application Information:

Applications must be submitted by September 15, 2021. Grant notification will be in late October 2021.

Grants will be disbursed in one payment during the first month of the grant period, except for grants awarded under the Individual Support application. Individual Support grants will be disbursed to third party vendors as needed throughout the Grant Period, as requested by the applicant organization.

Approved grants above $1,000 are reimbursement-based.
