Grants to Nevada rural school districts and charter schools to promote financial literacy for students in grades 3-12. Funding is available for professional development for teachers, who teach in a discipline in which financial literacy instruction may be provided. Funding is also available for administrators and counselors for efforts to increase college and career readiness, focusing on college financial readiness for all students.

Financial Literacy equips people with the knowledge and skills needed to manage money effectively and make positive financial decisions. Financial Literacy impacts the daily lives of all people and can have global consequences. It is imperative tools are provided to students to help navigate complex financial matters.

Senate Bill 249 was enacted to create and expand Financial Literacy education, to help move Nevada forward to more economic sustainability, and to assist district leaders and classroom teachers in the implementation of these initiatives through high-quality professional development. Senate Bill 314 is a continuation of this work.

Suggested uses of funds include:

  • Professional Development that will directly impact administrators, teachers, counselors, and students in ways to teach the standards for financial literacy in grades 3- 12; may include teacher stipends for qualified professional development; RPDP trainings and travel; statewide Financial Literacy Summits; and Financial Literacy Conferences (i.e. Jump$tart, Council for Economic Education, and others).
  • Curriculum Development and equipment that directly ties to financial literacy instruction in 3-12 grade levels.
