Description:

Request a Grant Writer

Grants to USA nonprofit organizations in eligible areas to promote STEM education and career paths for girls from underrepresented ethnicities. Eligible communities include: Silicon Valley, California; Austin, Texas; Boise, Idaho; Gloucester, Massachusetts; Kalispell, Montana; Malta and Albany, New York; Phoenix and Chandler, Arizona; and Portland and Hillsboro, Oregon.

While Applied Materials and the Applied Materials Foundation have invested in education programs in low-income communities for over more than a decade, the specific challenges faced by young girls as they explore future career paths necessitate a more targeted strategy.

Programs funded will:

  • Address girls’ lack of self-efficacy and confidence
  • Positively change perceptions about traditional gender stereotypes as they pertain to future career decisions
  • Increase access to high-quality STEM programs
  • Build capacity of organizations or the field to address the above topics

Programs funded must:

  • Serve low-income girls or girls from ethnicities typically underrepresented in tech companies ages 5 through 18 (grades K – 12) or, if capacity building, serve organizations that focus on this population.
  • Operate in U.S. regions where Applied does business, which includes: Silicon Valley, California; Austin, Texas; Boise, Idaho; Gloucester, Massachusetts; Kalispell, Montana; Malta and Albany, New York; Phoenix and Chandler, Arizona; and Portland and Hillsboro, Oregon.
  • Be evidence-based and/or aligned with current research.
  • Not be currently funded by Applied Materials or the Applied Materials Foundation.
