Grants of $1,000 and $2,000 and in-kind donations valued at $250 to eligible USA K-12 public, private, and charter schools for programs to start a new school garden or expand an existing school garden. Funding is intended for schools where at least 40% of the students qualify for reduced-price or free meals. Applicants must be planning a new garden or expanding an existing school garden program designed to teach students about environmental sustainability and the importance of biodiversity.
The Budding Botanist grant will help young citizens learn about plants, explore their world, and inspire them to take care of the life they discover in their local ecosystems.

Each grant recipient will receive a package of tools and educational materials valued at $250 along with a check for $2,000 or $1,000 to spend on the materials needed to install a new or expand an existing school garden.
In addition to an award package, the three schools that win the $2,250 prize will receive visits from KidsGardening and the Klorane Botanical Foundation at a garden celebration.
All funded gardens must be able to be installed by the end of the 2019-2020 school year.
