Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) - Division of Forestry
Grants of up to $3,000 to Ohio fire departments in eligible regions for equipment and materials to support firefighter and community education and reduce wildfires. Funding is intended to assist fire departments located in the designated wildlfire protection area. Eligible uses of funds include dry hyrands, technology items, and items that support education programs.
Following is a list of permissible projects. Combinations of items may be included in a single application. Projects are listed in the order of priority of funding:
A. Dry hydrants. All dry hydrant proposals must be accompanied by NFPA 1142 Annex I Dry Hydrant Design Worksheet and Dry Hydrant Hardware Layout Worksheet.
B. Technology items that support wildfire preparedness, wildfire response, and wildfire reporting including: GPS units, navigation devices, handheld weather data devices, tablets, desktop computers, and laptop computers.
C. Items that support public/community education or firefighter education including: computer projectors, projector screens, whiteboards, smartboards, outdoor electronic/LED sign boards, popup tent/canopy, folding tables, and folding chairs
D. Other items that applicants feel support their local needs for community wildfire risk reduction may be requested. These items may be considered for funding if the items are within scope of the technology / education programs and the need is clearly explained.

A maximum of $3,000 has been placed upon the amount of federal reimbursement grant dollars to be awarded to any individual project.
Because of USDA Forest Service property control guidelines applied to items purchased using federal funding, no single item may exceed $4,999.00 in cost.
Only purchases made after grants are awarded will be eligible for reimbursement. Proof of purchase and proof of payment made by the department must be submitted to ODNR Forestry by June 1, 2019.
Only Fire Departments who provide primary fire service coverage within the ODNR Forestry Wildfire Protection Area are eligible for this opportunity.
The deadline for return of the application to the Division of Forestry is January 15, 2019.
The grants are 50/50 matching reimbursement grants. This means a fire department that receives a grant must purchase the equipment prior to receiving reimbursement for 50% of the total project amount.
Departments must have a Fire Department Identification number (FDID) to qualify.
Departments must have a DUNS Number that is registered with SAM.gov to qualify. For information on registering or updating your DUNS number information, please visit the “Help” section at www.sam.gov.
Departments must be registered as a supplier with the State of Ohio and must provide their vendor ID on the grant application. Applicants can verify/sign up as a State of Ohio supplier and manage their account at: https://supplier.ohio.gov
