Grants of up to $15,000 to Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC nonprofit organizations serving the Washington, DC area to protect, preserve, and sustain built and natural environments, especially those affecting low-income communities. Funding may be used for general operating or program-specific grant requests.
Eligible regions include the District of Columbia, Northern Virginia, Montgomery County, and Prince George's County.
Funding is available for eligible nonprofit organizations providing programs and activities that are directly related to the following priorities:
- Preserving the regions historic places and protecting neighborhood diversity;
- Preserving and ensuring equitable access to the region’s natural resources;
- Promoting smart growth and conservation efforts; and
- Supporting education, civic engagement and advocacy pertaining to environmental issues.

Local nonprofit organizations with a demonstrated track record in successfully preserving, protecting or encouraging sustainable use of exceptional natural or built environments in the National Capital Region may apply.
Applicants must submit a proposal via The Community’s Foundation’s online application system no later than 4:00 p.m. on Friday, December 14.
