Grants ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 to Takoma Park, Maryland nonprofit organizations and business associations for projects, events, and programs that benefit the residents of the city, and offer better access to science and the arts. Applicants must submit a Letter of Interest prior to applying. Funding is intended for STEM events and projects, as well as programs, events and projects focused on arts and humanities.

Previous grants have included: science and math clubs, robotics clubs, computer programming classes, concert and film series, public art, maker spaces, technology-based internship and apprenticeship programs.

The primary focus of the proposal is to provide a benefit to individuals and households with low and moderate incomes, defined as 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) as determined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Specifically, at least 51% of participants must meet this income requirement, and at least 75% of the participants must be residents of the City of Takoma Park.

Estimated Size of Grant:

The City of Takoma Park Community Grants range from a minimum of $5,000 to a maximum of $10,000.

Term of Contract:

For this year’s cycle, all funded projects must be completed between July 1, 2019, and June 30, 2020.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Funding is available to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and business associations. The use of a fiscal agent is permitted for those organizations that have applied for but not yet secured their 501(c)(3) determination from the IRS. Individuals and for-profit enterprises are not eligible for funding.

Pre-proposal Conference:

The City of Takoma Park will hold two information workshops to launch the new online application portal for the upcoming Community Grant cycle. Workshops are free, open to the public, and identical in content. Representatives from the city will present information on how nonprofit organizations serving Takoma Park residents can apply for grant funding and provide an overview of the online application portal

Registration to attend the workshops is optional. Interested parties should email the Grants Coordinator and provide contact information and the date of the workshop they would like to attend.

Once submitted, each LOI will be reviewed for eligibility by City staff and select projects will be forwarded to the Grants Review Committee (GRC). The GRC will determine which applicants will be advanced for further consideration.

Select applicants will be invited to submit a full application, which will be due on April 12, 2019, by 5:00 PM EST.

The City of Takoma Park will only accept applications through the online application portal.

For every dollar of grant funds provided by the City of Takoma Park, grantees must demonstrate a matched dollar of support from a separate source of funding or volunteer time. Matched funds may include donations from other funders, revenue, in-kind donations of goods or services that have a specific value, and documented volunteer hours.

Applicants are limited to one grant award per 12-month funding cycle.
