Opportunity for Phoenix, Arizona small businesses to compete for a $10,000 prize to implement an innovative business idea. Eligible contest participants will demonstrate how they use technology to reshape their markets, how they have created a better way to serve existing customers, or how they have created a whole new product, service or business model.

Five finalists will be selected in the Phoenix market:
- The five finalists will pitch their idea at a Business Journals event, sponsored by BBVA
- A distinguished panel of judges, including self-made entrepreneur Sandra Lee, will select 1 winner in the Phoenix market.
- The winner in the Phoenix Market will receive $10,000 and the chance to compete for the $50,000 grand prize.

Grand Prize Winner:
The grand prize winner in each market will be awarded $10,000 and have a chance to compete in Phoenix (travel and expenses paid) at the final event where the ultimate grand prize winner will be awarded $50,000. All finalists and winners will receive promotion in the local Business Journal and be showcased on digital platforms as well as be recognized at a celebratory event in Phoenix.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

This Local Market Promotion is only open to small business owners in the city of Phoenix, Arizona who are legal residents of Phoenix, Arizona and who are at least 18 years old as of the date of entry.

Officers, directors, members, and employees of the Sponsor, or any other party associated with the development or administration of this Local Market Promotion, and the immediate family (i.e., parents, children, siblings, spouse), and persons residing in the same household, as such individuals are not eligible to participate.

To be eligible, businesses must have been established for a minimum of 2 years as of the date of entry and have at least $1 million in annual revenue. Entrants may be asked to provide documentation confirming you meet these requirements. Failure to provide documentation may result in disqualification.

Privately Owned Automated Teller Machines, Pawn Shops, Money Transfer, Transmittal or Remittance businesses, Personal Credit Institutions, Private Investment Companies, Massage, Escort and Tanning establishments, Parking Garages, Adult Video Tape Rental companies, sub-prime lenders, payday lenders, and company associated in any way with the cannabis industry, non-profit and Casino, Gambling or Gaming businesses are not eligible. This Local Market Promotion is void outside Phoenix, Arizona and where prohibited.

Pre-Application Information:

This Local Market Promotion begins 12:01 AM EST July 4, 2019 and ends 11:59 PM EST August 15, 2019 when all entries must be received.

Phase One: All entries will be judged on or about August 29, 2019 (the “Judging Date”) by a panel of judges comprised of representatives from the Business Journals and BBVA USA.

Any potential finalist will be notified by mail, email and/or telephone. If a potential finalist: (i) cannot be contacted; (ii) does not respond within two (2) days from the date the Sponsor first tries to notify him/her; (iii) fails to return the Affidavit and Release as specified in section 9; (iv) refuses the prize; and/or (v) the prize or prize notification is returned as undeliverable, such potential finalist forfeits all rights to win the Local Market Promotion or receive the prize, and an alternate potential finalist may be selected. Upon determining that she has met all eligibility requirements of the Local Market Promotion, including without limitation the execution of required waivers, publicity and liability releases and disclaimers, and, at Sponsor’s discretion, successful completion of a background check, such individual will be declared a “finalist” and move to Phase Two.

Phase Two: The Business Journals will create profiles of the five (5) finalists, upload them to its website and the public will be asked to vote. Voting begins 12:01 AM EST September 12, 2019 and ends 11:59 PM EST October 17, 2019.

Finalist must present their concept in person to the judges on October 29, 2019 in (or within 20 miles of) Phoenix, Arizona. Judges will score entries based on the criteria noted above (85%) and the results of the public vote (15%). The one finalist with the highest score will be declared the potential winner (in the event of a tie, the entry with the higher score in the judge's criteria will prevail).
