Request a Grant Writer

Grants of $20,000 to Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut filmmaking teams to produce short films. Funding is intended to showcase new visions and to provide a career advancement opportunity. Priority is given to emerging talent. Films may be of any genre except documentary.

One person can fulfill more than one role, but single persons fulfilling all roles of writer/producer/director are encouraged to have at least another dedicated producer on board in order to apply. Filmmaking teams may attach a more experienced executive producer to the project, although it is not a requirement.

Projects must be short films between 5 and 10mins and must adhere to CAVCO-certified can-con regulations.

Projects in all languages are eligible, although submissions material must be submitted in English.

Eligible projects:

  • Short film scripts 10 pages or under
  • Applicants may only be attached to one application per deadline

Term of Contract:

Projects must go into production within six months of selection and must deliver their film within one year of selection.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Writer, director, and producer must all be Canadian citizens or permanent residents, must reside in one of the three territories, and the applicant company must be a Northwest Territories, Yukon or Nunavut incorporated company or a federally incorporated company with headquarters in NWT, Yukon or Nunavut. (Applicants not incorporated at the time of application are still eligible, but must incorporate if selected into the program).

Writer, producer, and director must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents.

Turnaround time is 4-6 weeks. Applicants will be notified of their decision by via email.
