Grants ranging from $2,500 to $5,000 to Michigan nonprofit organizations, municipalities, faith-based organizations, and schools for projects that benefit residents in Ingham, Clinton, and Eaton Counties. Funding is intended to enhance the quality of life for local residents. Grants may be requested for ongoing projects or programs. Mini-Grants are best suited for programs that are not time-sensitive.

Mini-Grants are for $2,500 to $5,000.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Mini- Grants are reserved for organizations whose annual operating budget is no more than $350,000.

Grants at the Community Foundation are available to 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations and other eligible entities such as municipalities, schools and faith-based organizations, for projects that predominantly benefit residents of Clinton, Eaton and Ingham Counties, Michigan.

To qualify for a grant from the Community Foundation's competitive grant process, your organization must have one of the following:
- Federal tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; OR you must apply through a fiscal agent that meets this criteria.
- State of Michigan Charitable Solicitation License (unless your organization raises funds exclusively using volunteers and receives less than $25,000 a year; OR if your organization is designated by the State as an “other qualifying entity.”) For information, please visit the Michigan Attorney General website at,4534,7-359-82915_82919_80762-424784--,00.html.

What the Foundation Generally Cannot Fund:
- Religious programs
- Individuals
- International organizations
- Endowment funds
- Existing obligations, debts or liabilities, incurred before the grant committee decision date

The Community Foundation values projects and agencies that promote inclusiveness and that do not discriminate in hiring staff or providing services on the basis of race, gender, religion, marital status, sexual orientation, age, national origin or disability.

Pre-Application Information:

Mini Grant timeline:
- December 1, 2019: The mini-grant application will be available on the eGrant system
- January 15, 2020: Mini-grant application deadline
- February 2020: A brief summary of each mini-grant request will be mailed to the Community Foundation's donor advised fund holders for their consideration.
These opportunities will be provided to donor advised fund holders throughout the year. Since there is no guarantee that mini grant requests will be funded, or within a certain timeframe, mini-grants are best suited to activities that are not time-sensitive.
