Grants of up to $25,000 per year to Illinois and Indiana nonprofit, for-profit, faith-based, and community organizations, and local governments in eligible regions for programs that address issues related to substance use disorders. Applicants must submit an LOI prior to applying. Funding is intended to increase awareness among youth and the greater community of the risks of substance use, and to help de-stigmatize substance use disorders through educational programs or campaigns.

Eligible applicants will develop and implement new programs and/or sustain existing programs within the Wabash Valley. The United Way service area includes Clay, Parke, Sullivan, Vermillion and Vigo Counties in Indiana; and Clark County in Illinois.

The Substance Use Disorders Council will measure contributing outcomes of Wabash Valley-wide substance use-related arrests and Department of Child Services substance use-related child removal cases. To contribute to success in these outcomes, the grant expects to increase the number of individuals provided education via development and implementation of new programming and/or sustaining and expanding existing programming. These programs must either:

  1. Provide education regarding the risk associated with substance use, including the impact of
    drugs, alcohol, recreational marijuana, and abuse of prescription medications;
    Or
  2. Provide education and modeling of non-stigmatizing behavior to encourage nonjudgmental,
    empathetic support from the community.

The focus of program activities should be education for prevention and/or de-stigmatization. Although funding is not intended for treatment, some treatment activities may be considered as part of a comprehensive education and prevention program. The program is seeking applicants that will conduct information dissemination activities that will build substance use risk education and/or develop a public service communication campaigns providing education to reduce the stigma commonly associated with substance use disorder.
