Grants of up to $10,000 to Oregon nonprofit organizations and small businesses for workforce development initiatives. Funding is intended to support reuse and repair businesses and to help local businesses address challenges related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The purpose of the reuse and repair workforce development grants is to keep products in service longer, reducing environmental impacts of upstream production as well as reducing wastes, while also creating new jobs in the State.

Repair and reuse industries contribute significantly to employment and economic prosperity in Oregon and help to rebuild the skills and practices needed to be more resourceful. Many everyday products can have a longer useful life with proper maintenance and repair. Capturing this value through expanded opportunities for repair, refurbishment, resale and reuse reduces a broad variety of environmental impacts. This also offers greater access and affordability to many who can benefit from low-cost alternatives.

Please note that the eligible costs covered through this grant program have been broadened to address the challenges small businesses face with employee retention during the current COVID-19 outbreak. Keeping the reuse and repair sectors economically viable is a  priority, and DEQ wants to use this grant to help keep reuse and repair businesses operating through the disruptions caused by the current health crisis. Please consider applying for funding to support your current staff and ongoing operations.

  • DEQ is seeking proposals for projects that will extend the lifespan of products and materials already in circulation through reuse, repair, refurbishment or remanufacturing (together referred to as “reuse and repair”). Since not all materials have the same environmental impacts, the potential benefits of reuse or repair may vary across materials. Some of the products with the most significant environmental impacts include textiles, building materials, appliances, furniture, consumer electronics, and machinery.
  • DEQ is seeking to support businesses and nonprofits involved in the reuse and repair industries that are facing significant disruption and loss of business during the COVID-19 outbreak.
